Insert something about campers here.
Oh my goodness. Today was definitely an ‘August-y’ day at the campground.
It’s not that there were a lot of really weird people, but it just had that vibe of ‘wtf-ness’ going around. I don’t know how to explain it. I’m making two posts. Because this story deserves it’s own.
But I can start with a story of something that did happen which made me livid. If you haven’t realized, I like the word livid. It’s funy to say and usually when I use it it’s the ‘I’m shaking because I’m so anxious and angry’ sort of feeling.
So yes. I had this lady call and we have a conversation that’s similar to this.
Me: Campground!
Her: What is your policy on pets? What are your restrictions?
Me: Well, what are you camping with?
Her: That’s not what I asked. What is your policy on pets?
Me: … the pet policy depends on the type of unit you come camping with.
Her: Oh okay. We have a class A motorhome. We’re looking at coming in September.
Me: Oh okay. As long as you clean up after them, keep them on a leash and do not leave them unattended, it shouldn’t be a problem.
Her: So your pet restrictions are for cabins?
Me: Yes, we don’t allow any pets inside cabins for allgery reasons and to keep them clean. We also don’t allow pets on tent sites because we’ve had trouble with people leaving their animals outside all day long, alone.
Her: Oh I understand that.
… okay, seems decent so far, right? THEN she goes on this long speech about what our ad in Trailer Life says and how we should change it and how usually it means breed restrictions. We do have breed restrictions, which I should have included in the beginning, but I didn’t. Yes, that’s my fault.
Me: Well, for breeds we don’t accept Pitbulls or Dobermen.
Her: You didn’t say that before.
Me: Honestly, you’re coming in September and it’s not exactly an issue then. The part is very quiet and there aren’t many (if any) children around.
Her: Well it shouldn’t matter what time of year it’s at.
Okay, cut to her CHEWING ME OUT FOR LIKE FIVE MINUTES over how it’s not the breed of dog, it’s unsupervised children. I wish I interrupted her and said something because in general, I AGREE but come on. We’re a family campground and if ONE bad thing happened we’d be screwed. I own a dog, I feel for her! I absolutely love dogs and I always have! She even said she doesn’t have any of those types of dogs, so what does it matter? She was honestly yelling at me over it. I tried to be like, yeah I understand where you’re coming from, but she kept cutting me off.
Then she finishes off with a bitchy, “Well, because of your breed rules we can’t stay there”. Or something.
Okay if you have a problem with it, I understand. But that’s not something you have to take up with me. Did you ask if I was management? No. So what do you think telling me is going to accomplish? Do you really think I’m going report to my boss that some stuck up lady flipped shit because we don’t allow certain breeds which are notorious for attacking people and we have a campground FILLED WITH LITTLE CHILDREN? NO.
I AM NOT.
I HAVE COMMON SENSE.
YOU APPARENTLY DO NOT.
Okay now I feel better.
