Piano Playing

// February 14th, 2009 // 4 Comments » // Blog, Music

Lately, I’ve been playing piano quite a bit. It always seems to go in these phases, but it’s a good feeling to take out some old books, sit down and play something that I haven’t played in a while.

So, today I tried to record a couple of pieces. It wasn’t really intended for Valentine’s Day, but I guess they’re both about love, so it’s fitting.

As always, excuse my piano / recording equipment (or lackthereof).

The first is Romeo & Juliet.

And this one, is Love is Blue.

Not terribly exciting, but it’s kind of nice to have some place to put a few mp3s that I recorded.

I probably should practice more. And play more. I’ve always wanted to become one of those players who can move people, when they play. I don’t know if that sounds lame or not, but I think if you can play something and make someone feel because of it, that’s a great feeling.

Away in a Manger

// December 1st, 2008 // No Comments » // Blog, Music

In the Christmas book I normally use (I’ll have to get the title when I go home) Away in a Manger is recommended to be preceded by Silent Night. There;s this one part of Silent Night that kills me, for some reason… my fingers always trip up. So I decided to do Away in a Manger because … I could, and it’s my mum’s favourite.

Angels We Have Heard on High

// December 1st, 2008 // No Comments » // Blog, Music

If you know me, then you’ll probably know that for some reason, I love playing Christmas songs. I don’t really listen to Christmas music that often, but I play it on the piano. Every Christmas I play a little bit for my family… especially now that we celebrate at my parent’s house.

As per usual, the recording quality isn’t very good. I just use a normal mic, so I’ve done the best I can do with it, haha.

Here’s a recording of Angels We Have Heard on High.

Pink

// July 13th, 2008 // 1 Comment » // Music

This song is one from the Royal grade eight repertoire book. If I remember correctly it’s a list D song (which are generally… interesting). I actually only started to play it because of the title, but then I ended up liking it a lot.

The title is ‘Pink’ but I don’t think that it represents the colour in any way. Pink seems like it would be happy to me and this doesn’t really sound overly perky. Maybe hopeful or something. It’s more like mauve, if you ask me.

One Planet

// July 13th, 2008 // No Comments » // Music

In the spring of this past year, I was asked if I would accompany a grade three choir from one of the local Catholic Schools. I said yes, because it seemed like it would be fun. I only practiced with them a few times and then we went to a showcase … sort of deal, but I really liked doing it. The kids were so cute and did a great job of their song.

The song they performed was called “One Planet”. [This is just me playing, I didn't get a chance to record them singing and me playing with it].

One Moment in Time

// July 13th, 2008 // No Comments » // Music

So, I started learning One Moment in Time a while ago, mostly because it’s a song and arrangement that my piano teacher really likes. I ended up loving the song as well, but the last page and a half or so is absolutely killer.

Unfortunately I haven’t kept up with practicing it so I’m afraid it hasn’t gotten much better. :/ But this is the first couple pages of the song.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

// July 13th, 2008 // No Comments » // Music

This was recorded in November of 2007 and is one of my all-time favourite Christmas songs. It’s definitely my favourite to play and admittedly I generally like the instrumental version best.

I obviously don’t have anything like professional recording equipment… so I just use my mic. That’s why the recording quality isn’t exactly great.
