Bad drivers and bug bites

Yesterday, I talked about how I got like a line of bug bites. Well I managed to take a photo using my new webcam. I had to sit like a pretzel, because you have to press a button to do a capture, but I did it!

bugbite.jpg

They’re a lot better today than they were yesterday because Kat gave me some cortisone cream to put on it which really helped. But now that it’s worn off they’re so itchy. :/ I hate mosquitoes.

Okay so now a driving story.

I think I’m a decent driver. I try not to piss anyone off and although I sometimes drive too fast, I’m cautious. Or I try to be at least. Today I was coming home on that stretch of highway that his ridiculously narrow shoulders. Behind me and to my right, is a huge transport truck. With the brightest lights in the world. Shining. Right into my eyes via the rear view mirror.

I actually had to slouch a little bit to get the glare out of my eyes. It really pissed me off. I mean, how dangerous is that? It’s not like you don’t know they’re on.

I had to get over, because my exit was coming up. So I signaled and crossed to the next lane, and the dumbass starts flashing his lights. It’s not like he was on my ass, there was plenty of room. That irritated me even more, but then the truck changes lanes and is in the left lane. Where they are not supposed to be. There are huge signs saying “Trucks in the right lane only” or something to that nature.

THEN he speeds up. So I’m stuck beside the barrier with the smallest shoulder ever, and this huge dumbass transport truck. Not a location I’m happy in, but there was nothing I could do. I couldn’t speed up anymore because there was a car in front of me and there was no where else to go.

He sped up enough to pass the car in front of me, and then changed lanes again. First off, I was speeding so he had to have been going way too fast for that area in a lane he wasn’t even supposed to be in. It just really irritated me, for some reason.

And lately I’ve seen a ridiculous amount of people who apparently don’t know where their signal is located. It’s not hard to signal yet people seem to not be able to do it. I can’t read your mind! USE YOUR SIGNAL.

Beach attempt I

Saturday was my day off (I know, it was really weird to have a Saturday off because I usually work the weekends! Not complaining, it just felt weird, haha).

Kat, Melinda and I planned on going to the beach. Unfortunately when we woke up, it was raining so we decided to not go. But, Kat came over anyways and we did some grocery shopping for my Grammy and Grampy, and visited with them for a bit. After that, her parents called and said that Burlington wasn’t getting the rain, so we decided to head up there to go to the becah.

So, we pack our stuff and head out… only to find when we get there, the rain clouds are rolling in. Then it started to rain and it was calling for ran all evening. We decided to drive back home down the lakeshore, hoping that we’d hit a sunny pocket and be able to go to the beach for at least a bit.

Eventually, we found a spot to set up camp and while it was a rocky beach it was still nice to be able to lay out in the sun for at least a little while. We went in the water briefly (climbing on all the rocks) and ate lunch. There was a rock that was submerged in water, but it was tall (does that make sense?) So we sat out there for a bit, and felt like mermaids. Haha. But the weather was crazy. The photo on the left is where we were sitting, looking out onto the water. The one on the right, is once again from where we were sitting, but behind us.

Rain clouds. Suck.

The worst part is, it cleared up around the beach we were originally going to go to! But we figured out it was Canal Days there (which is like a big festival thing) so we were kind of glad we didn’t go. It kind of sucks going to the beach when it’s crammed with people celebrating. I like going to relax, haha.

While we were relaxing, we got a visit from a flock of Canadian Geese. Okay, so while they look all nice and cute, they are evil, nasty birds. Every time I’ve come into contact with one they’ve tried to bite me and hissed at me. And their poop is really big and gross. There was this little circle of rocks in the water and they filtered through there onto the beach (which we jokingly called our private beach because no one was around… except for people playing the bongo drums above us).

The first photo is of the flock leader and in the second you can see the rest of the clan.

We honestly couldn’t believe how close they came! I mean, it’s one thing if you go up to them but they came really close when we were their first. I had to take a video.

And about those bongo drummers… we were just hanging out and relaxing when all of a sudden we hear someone playing the drums. We were both like, WTF and though there had to be something going on up at the park that was above us. Kat went back to the car to get sunscreen, and found out it was just a guy and girl playing the bongos.

Apparently, he was teaching her how to play. She kind of sucked, and they honestly played the same rhythm for about an hour. At first it was kind of nice with the sounds of the water and then the drums… but after a while it grew irritating, haha.

It seems like every time we want to go to the beach, it rains. So we’ve decided to give it the codeword ‘mall’, haha. We were going to go on Tuesday, but unfortunately it looks like it’s going to rain… this is a new development, because it wasn’t supposed to a few days ago.

Here’s to hoping that the weathermen are wrong and it’ll be an awesome sunny day!

Oh, and despite the fact we weren’t out in the sun long, I got a bit of a sun burn. I mean I’m really pale and fair skinned to begin with, but I honestly didn’t expect to burn so fast. :/

Let’s go to the movies~!

Today was my day off. So I spent the morning relaxing, went shopping for a bit with my mum and then went to dinner and the movies with Kat, Melinda and Melinda’s neice Madison.

The drive-in is always fun and it’s particularly fun when you don’t get eaten alive by mosquitoes. We had a good screen because we got one that didn’t have the forest behind it. (Yay, less buggy). It’s also cooler now (especially at night) which I think helped to keep the bugs away. We decided to see The Dark Knight (again) and Get Smart.

We got there at around 8:45pm, got our snacks and headed back to the car. The first (and most important) task was to cheese the popcorn. Yes, Kat and I love the cheese that much that we brought our own shaker (which we had purchased the last time we went to the drive-in) to make sure our popcorn was filled with white cheddar goodness. The great thing about the drive-in is that both the tickets and the concession stand is cheaper, haha. Because you know, they seriously over charge at the theatre, which is really lame.

Anyways, we’re hanging out listening to the station waiting for the show to start and this truck with a trailer attached to the back pulls up and parks in the front row. They weren’t blocking our view or anything, but then we see them unloading furniture onto the grass. No, I’m not even joking. They had two couches and an arm chair. The chair I can somewhat understand, but really now, who brings a couch to the drive-in?

They weren’t blocking or bugging anyone so it’s not an issue, but it was just really… weird. The Dark Knight was MUCH easier to watch on the screen now that we weren’t “———————” THIS CLOSE to it. (We were in the third row when we saw it at the theatre). Just as good the second time around, but I started to feel a bit sleepy at the end because I already knew where everything was going. Regardless, I love Batman, haha. I also really hope that Angelina Jolie is in the next one as Catwoman. I’ve read various rumours that have said they’re trying to get her to do it. That would be so awesome.

After the first movie, Madison went into the trunk to sleep. Okay, that’s not a sketchy as it sounds. She’s eleven, and it was past midnight (also way past her bedtime) and Kat has an SUV. So to make it easier to sleep, she went into the trunk. That was after we ran back to the snack place and picked up some Smarties (and took a washroom break).

When we got back we were greeted by my favourite part of the drive-in. THE INTERMISSION SONG WITH THE DANCING SNACKS. Seriously, how can you not love it? They’re so awesome and so happy. I managed to record some of it…

After the amazingness of the intermission song and dance, Get Smart was on. With only one preview (and it was The Dark Knight… doesn’t that kind of suck? I love previews… so it was a bit disappointing). Get Smart was a really cute movie! There were some really great lines and some hilarious parts. It was nice and light which was a nice break after seeing Batman (because that’s definitely a dark movie).

Best line of the movie?

Maxwell Smart: Are you thinking what I’m thinking?
The Chief: I don’t know. Were you thinking, “Holy shit, holy shit, a sword fish almost went through my head”? If so, then yes.

Work tomorrow at three and then somehow I got Saturday off. We’re packed this weekend (honestly, no sites left… we hardly have any tent sites left) so I don’t know if I’m excited or terrified.

NO MORE RAIN.

Okay, seriously. I am really really tired of all this rain.

Not only does it suck driving n the rain, but we get so many complaints from campers. I’m really tired of hearing, “MY SITE WAS WETTER THAN ALL THE OTHER SITES! IT’S THE WORST ONE OUT THERE!!11!!“.

Yes. You know what? It’s a conspiracy. We [the staff] took shifts carrying buckets of water to your site and your site alone to make sure that it was flooded more than any other site in the park. Melinda and I took the first shift and we really did a number on it. I mean seriously, who says that? We had one family (a few weeks ago) that insisted theirs was the worst in the park and that it was our fault.

Whatever.

When I was driving to the campground I noticed that the clouds looked… well, not the same as they always do. I took a few photos and if you look carefully, you’ll notice that it kind of looks like there are there vertical strings of clouds connecting the clouds to the ground. It’s pretty cool. (I really like clouds, apparently).

The crazy thing about yesterday is it was like POURING RAIN then two seconds later, nice and clear, then you waited two minutes and you were back to POURING RAIN… it went on and off at least five times on my way. We’ve also been having thunderstorms. Where it just thunders. Wednesday night (and early Thursday morning) it was really bad for that.

Not to mention, this is one cold summer. I know a lot of friends who aren’t from Canada make fun because Canada is stereotypically cold… but usually the summers here get really hot and humid. Yes, we do get days where the weather is over 100゜F. But lately with all the rain, it’s been really cool.

Rain, Rain, Go away

The past few days have been nothing but rain. Saturday was the weirdest, because it poured like huge drops of rain where I live, but hardly anything where I work. Today nothing at work, but when I was coming home I drove into a bunch of misty rain.

I honestly think it’s time for the rain to end.

The other day when I was driving home (about a week ago, actually) I noticed that right above me were these huge black storm clouds, but you could see the white and blue skies ahead. For some reason, I find that incredibly interesting.

So I took a few photos.

… again, I took these while I was driving so they’re not great. And yes, I know I shouldn’t take photos while driving at the same time, haha. But it looked so cool, so I really wanted to. It’s hard to tell the scale of it from these photos and seeing it in real life was obviously much better than a picture can show, but I’m glad I got a few at least.
