Using /rʊf/

instead of

/ruːf/

is just plain irritating.

Reminds me of this one family that came into the campground store at the NGV.
They stood at the front desk for at least half an hour asking how I said things, and laughing at the differences.

For example…

Them: What do you call the thing on top of a house?
Me: A /ruːf/
Them: BAHAHAHAHAHAHA. WE SAY /rʊf/!!!!

I don’t really see the amazing humour in this.
Although admittedly, it was actually very funny when they came across a word that had no difference.
They looked so disappointed.

Like someone had stolen their last cupcake.

I haven’t updated for a while, because… I guess, I don’t really have that much to say. Things at work are going well though, and I had a talk with my boss and he said the same. So, I was definitely relieved to hear that. I get paranoid that they won’t want me to stay, or that the students or parents will complain about me. I try my best to make classes fun, and to make sure the kids learn what they’re supposed to, but you know… what you think you’re doing, and what you’re actually doing don’t always end up being the same.

Oh! One of my three year olds made some origami and drew a picture for me! Haha. It’s super cute, and I was so touched. I also have another who always goes, “Adrienne先生, 見て見て！！” (LOOK AT ME!) and then she’ll twirl or something, haha. It kind of makes me think of Stuart from MadTV, except she’s like… super cute and Stuart (as awesome as he is) is kinda creepy.

Things at S-T are a bit crazy right now, but luckily we’re going to get all the wrinkles smoothed out. Let’s just say the site has greatly veered from the path it originally started on, and because of that we’ve been kind of in this weird limbo for a while. We’re fixing that up. There’s (hopefully) lots of changes coming up soon, so I hope that our readers will enjoy it! I love S-T and I think we all work really hard, so I hope we can make it live up to its potential. Mija and I have been working, I’ve been talking a lot to Inka and Shintomo about what we could do, and Hitomi and I have been working on stuff on this end. So, that’s something to look forward to.

This isn’t it, but FINALLY the weather isn’t trying to kill everyone living in Nagoya anymore (yay). It’s actually cool tonight! Well, cooler. This evening walking home from work I was actually kind of cold… and after wishing for coldness for so long, I kind of wish it wasn’t going to turn cold. Typical, right?

On a random note, my shoulder is peeling. O_O
Like, sunburn peeling.
No, for real. Because I know you’re doubting me right now, haha.

Oh, I also called Grammy tonight. She’s doing well, so that’s good to hear. My family never has much drama, so there’s never much to report, haha. It’s usually oh, the house looks good, the flowers are doing nicely, the dog ate a pound of butter… you know.

I don’t know why.

I never have. As long as I’ve had a phone. Which really has only been about five years. Landlines, I’m okay with answering. But cell phones… I get really weird about. I don’t have any sort of odd paranoid thoughts about it, I just simply don’t like answering it.

SO. That brings me to today.

This morning, bright and early (at eight o’clock) my phone rings, waking me from sleep. I had to work at 9:30, so it’s not like it was the worst time to be awake. However, I didn’t recognize the number, so I didn’t answer. I do not want to talk to someone I don’t know at eight in the morning. It rang again. Different number, which seemed weird, but I didn’t answer.

It turns out, I have voicemail on my phone. WHO KNEW. BECAUSE I SURE DIDN’T. Not until I got some this morning.

From my mother.

Naturally, I called her back right away beacuse I thought maybe something was wrong. Why else would she call me at eight in the morning and on my cell phone no less, especially when I just talked to her on Tuesday.

Long story short, she just wanted to talk. Nothing was wrong, which is a relief. I also don’t know why it gave me actual numbers for the long distance call. O_O Like, it looked like a regular cell phone number… weird.

Cut to this evening after work. I get another call, but it’s “Blocked Number”. Again, I don’t answer it. It rings again… from the “Blocked Number”. So I figure, oh what the hell, I’ll answer it and see what happens. It ends up being Hideko, calling to make sure the number I gave her worked. Good thing I did answer it! It was really hard to hear her for some reason, because it was all muffled, but she’s on her way, so I’m excited.

I need to get over this not wanting to answer the phone thing though. I have no idea what it is. It’s not that I don’t like talking, I just really… hate answering. The same with things like Skype. I do not want to answer if people I’m not intending to call, call me.

Hm. This may come off sounding more crazy than I intended.

Anyways, as much as I love school and teaching, it’ll be nice to have a week off. Especially because braintwin is coming, and we can evolve into the highly anticipated Adriko. Ah yes, we will take the cities by storm. They will not know what hit them.

So what are our plans? Well, for starters three of my adult students offered to take us to Ise. So we’ll be going there. They’re so sweet, and a lot of fun so I’m looking forward to that. We’ll also be heading off to Kyoto with Eri and her sister. Then, it’s on to Tokyo where we’ll be hanging out with Mr. Kim himself and hitting up a few lives. I should also add that Kim is amazing and I owe him one. Big time.  Then back home for the final day and a half for some shopping and probably some much needed relaxation.

I want to buy socks.

And since I’m veering off course, here some random thoughts and things from the past week.
1. Seeing the ‘too drunk to fuck’ t-shirt or tights never fails to amuse me.
2. Three of my students are apparently Kamen Riders and would prefer to be called by their Kamen Rider names.
3. You can use white board markers on top of white nail polish. It will rub off. However, excessive colouring on the nail will make the marker stick forcing you to strip, and repaint.
4. A crisis may occur when you colour the moon in sky blue.
5. Sending mail in Japan can turn out to be quite the procedure. Especially for a small card, with a small thing inside of it.
6. Udon is good. Even cold.
7. I get songs stuck in my head really easily. I didn’t realize how easy until this week. I can’t decide whether I find this enjoyable or irritating.
8. Fruit flies must all die.
9. The fact that I change the colour of my nail polish every week does not go unnoticed by my students. They are now giving me suggestions on what to do next.

SAO PAULO, Brazil — Police say a woman has died on the way to a cemetery when a traffic accident hurled her husband’s coffin against the back of her neck.

Police say 67-year old Marciana Barcelos was in the front passenger seat of the hearse when the accident occurred Monday in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Barcelos died instantly.

Her 76-year-old husband Josi Coimbra died Sunday of a heart attack while dancing at a party.

The driver of hearse and Barcelos’ son suffered minor injuries.

I know it’s sad, so it’s not really appropriate to laugh… but how can you not?

Well, I’m pretty close. I usually go five times. Twice on Monday (once on the way to work one and once on the way to work two… otherwise it’s one hell of a long day and night), once on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Then sometimes I might go an extra once or twice…

Ah, Timmies. I don’t drink coffee so I always get the same thing; a large earl grey tea with one cream and one sugar. Bag in. Haha.
