Why snow is now my mortal enemy.

It’s snowing here.

I mean, a lot more than it normally does for November. At least, I feel like it’s a lot more than normal. You kind of forget year to year… but regardless, I felt surprised at the amount of snow.

Last night, when I had to go to work, I had to brush some of it off the car, but it wasn’t too bad. However, when I was leaving work, I had a slight problem. One, I didn’t have any gloves. Two, I had no snow scraper or brush. Three, I pretty much had nothing to brush the snow off except my sleeve.

So naturally that’s what I used, which needless to say got snow everywhere and made my hands pretty damn cold.

Eventually they stopped burning and I had Candy Cane Ice Cream.

So, this morning. My car is covered, yet again, in snow. And leaves. And branches. e_e

I’m not exactly a morning person, so you can safely assume that I was in no way running early or on time. My mum said check the trunk because there might be a brush in there, but alas, there was nothing. Except an umbrella.

So I used the umbrella to clean off the car, and got some weird looks from people who were nearby. But hey, it actually worked pretty well. Except for the fact I was dumb and opened the car door before brushing off the door, and got snow all over my seat. :/

I managed to get some of the snow out, but not all of it. Finished cleaning off the car (kind of, I’m not exactly ridiculously tall, so reaching the middle of the back window and the top of the car proves to be difficult and my car ended up having a snow mohawk).

And on my way to work, realized that my seat was wet and was soaking my pants. NOT. COOL. It was from the snow in the car, plus the snow on my sweater. I didn’t realize how covered it got until I felt the wetness seeping through my jeans.

WHAT A WONDERFUL MORNING FEELING.

I have now decided that my mortal enemy will be snow.

Live from the campground

There was a massive storm here today.
It was crazy. I said to Amanda, it was like a shower… totally meaning it looked like what comes out of a shower head, that kind of constant intense stream of water.

The roof leaked yet again, which you know, is great. And of course people feel the need to come into the store when it’s pouring out and track water alllll throughout the shop.

It’s kind of like their need to put their hands on freshly cleaned glass.
It’s obnoxious.

And for some reason, when people buy like two things that are easy to carry and want a bag for it, I want to say something like DON’T BE LAME AND CARRY IT YOURSELF. I’d never say that, and sometimes I even ask for a bag for only a couple of things so I have no idea why I feel that way… it’s just some anger issues that boil up. Haha.

Planting, Beach Attempt II and Wii

Kat and I have discovered that by disguising the word ‘beach’ with the word ‘mall’ we often get better weather results. Or at least, we feel like it works, haha.

Yesterday I had my second day off for the week, so I can I decided we’d give the real beach a try! Not that the one before wasn’t real, but it was pretty rocky and not very sandy. We wanted a nice sandy beach where we could actually swim in the water. (Because let’s face it, we went in briefly before but swimming in Lake Ontario is just gross).

However, before we headed out to the beach mall we planted some plants. Which yes, sounds really random because I’m not exactly the gardener type, but Kat’s a volunteer for the Friends of the One Mile Creek and they were planting plants along the creek to help it out. I tagged along and it was a lot of fun, even though some of the poor plants looked like they were on their death bed before they got into the ground. We didn’t stay the whole time, but from when we started to when we left, you could see a difference. The only downside was that I got bitten by a misquito. Not bad, for once, but one must have been stuck inside my shirt and bit me like four times in a row. TOTALLY NOT COOL.

One of the perks to planting is we got to wear super cute rubber boots, haha. I borrowed Kat’s mum’s boots and they were all pink and green and cute. I’m so easily impressed, haha.

Anyways, after planting we went back to Kat’s house and then decided to make our trek to the beach. The one thing that kind of sucks is that the beach isn’t exactly next door and it usually takes 30 ~ 45 minutes to get there. But, we made it just as a lot of people were leaving, so that was awesome. Crowded beaches are not fun.

So while this picture doesn’t show that it was actually sunny, it really was!

We stayed out there for about an hour and a half and then packed up and went. It was about 5:30 when we headed back and both of us were starving. So when we got back to Kat’s, we ate and messaged Melinda to see if she wanted to do anything which lead to us deciding to come back to my house and play Wii.

So we did. Some Rayman’s Raving Rabbids and then we all worked on one fo the CSI cases together. It’s a really cool game (CSI: Hard Evidence) but sometimes it takes forever to actually finish the case. But we prevailed and finished it, haha.

It was a good day off and I was happy I got to hang out with both Kat and Melinda. My next day off is Friday and then next week I start back at the conservatory. I missed my kids, but at the same time I don’t really feel like going back yet, haha.

I’ve also put in an application to get my transcript from my school so that I can send that to the TESOL board and get my certificate to say that I’m actually a certified ESL teacher. It’s really annoying because I majored in linguistics in the TESOL steam (but we do TEFL things too) and I have to go do all this extra crap to actually get the certificate. :/ I mean, I graduated in that so I’m qualified. I wish my school would set it up so they could easily cooperate with the TESOL board in Ontario and we could get the certificates upon completion. Doesn’t that make more sense?

Beach attempt I

Saturday was my day off (I know, it was really weird to have a Saturday off because I usually work the weekends! Not complaining, it just felt weird, haha).

Kat, Melinda and I planned on going to the beach. Unfortunately when we woke up, it was raining so we decided to not go. But, Kat came over anyways and we did some grocery shopping for my Grammy and Grampy, and visited with them for a bit. After that, her parents called and said that Burlington wasn’t getting the rain, so we decided to head up there to go to the becah.

So, we pack our stuff and head out… only to find when we get there, the rain clouds are rolling in. Then it started to rain and it was calling for ran all evening. We decided to drive back home down the lakeshore, hoping that we’d hit a sunny pocket and be able to go to the beach for at least a bit.

Eventually, we found a spot to set up camp and while it was a rocky beach it was still nice to be able to lay out in the sun for at least a little while. We went in the water briefly (climbing on all the rocks) and ate lunch. There was a rock that was submerged in water, but it was tall (does that make sense?) So we sat out there for a bit, and felt like mermaids. Haha. But the weather was crazy. The photo on the left is where we were sitting, looking out onto the water. The one on the right, is once again from where we were sitting, but behind us.

Rain clouds. Suck.

The worst part is, it cleared up around the beach we were originally going to go to! But we figured out it was Canal Days there (which is like a big festival thing) so we were kind of glad we didn’t go. It kind of sucks going to the beach when it’s crammed with people celebrating. I like going to relax, haha.

While we were relaxing, we got a visit from a flock of Canadian Geese. Okay, so while they look all nice and cute, they are evil, nasty birds. Every time I’ve come into contact with one they’ve tried to bite me and hissed at me. And their poop is really big and gross. There was this little circle of rocks in the water and they filtered through there onto the beach (which we jokingly called our private beach because no one was around… except for people playing the bongo drums above us).

The first photo is of the flock leader and in the second you can see the rest of the clan.

We honestly couldn’t believe how close they came! I mean, it’s one thing if you go up to them but they came really close when we were their first. I had to take a video.

And about those bongo drummers… we were just hanging out and relaxing when all of a sudden we hear someone playing the drums. We were both like, WTF and though there had to be something going on up at the park that was above us. Kat went back to the car to get sunscreen, and found out it was just a guy and girl playing the bongos.

Apparently, he was teaching her how to play. She kind of sucked, and they honestly played the same rhythm for about an hour. At first it was kind of nice with the sounds of the water and then the drums… but after a while it grew irritating, haha.

It seems like every time we want to go to the beach, it rains. So we’ve decided to give it the codeword ‘mall’, haha. We were going to go on Tuesday, but unfortunately it looks like it’s going to rain… this is a new development, because it wasn’t supposed to a few days ago.

Here’s to hoping that the weathermen are wrong and it’ll be an awesome sunny day!

Oh, and despite the fact we weren’t out in the sun long, I got a bit of a sun burn. I mean I’m really pale and fair skinned to begin with, but I honestly didn’t expect to burn so fast. :/

NO MORE RAIN.

Okay, seriously. I am really really tired of all this rain.

Not only does it suck driving n the rain, but we get so many complaints from campers. I’m really tired of hearing, “MY SITE WAS WETTER THAN ALL THE OTHER SITES! IT’S THE WORST ONE OUT THERE!!11!!“.

Yes. You know what? It’s a conspiracy. We [the staff] took shifts carrying buckets of water to your site and your site alone to make sure that it was flooded more than any other site in the park. Melinda and I took the first shift and we really did a number on it. I mean seriously, who says that? We had one family (a few weeks ago) that insisted theirs was the worst in the park and that it was our fault.

Whatever.

When I was driving to the campground I noticed that the clouds looked… well, not the same as they always do. I took a few photos and if you look carefully, you’ll notice that it kind of looks like there are there vertical strings of clouds connecting the clouds to the ground. It’s pretty cool. (I really like clouds, apparently).

The crazy thing about yesterday is it was like POURING RAIN then two seconds later, nice and clear, then you waited two minutes and you were back to POURING RAIN… it went on and off at least five times on my way. We’ve also been having thunderstorms. Where it just thunders. Wednesday night (and early Thursday morning) it was really bad for that.

Not to mention, this is one cold summer. I know a lot of friends who aren’t from Canada make fun because Canada is stereotypically cold… but usually the summers here get really hot and humid. Yes, we do get days where the weather is over 100゜F. But lately with all the rain, it’s been really cool.

Rain, Rain, Go away

The past few days have been nothing but rain. Saturday was the weirdest, because it poured like huge drops of rain where I live, but hardly anything where I work. Today nothing at work, but when I was coming home I drove into a bunch of misty rain.

I honestly think it’s time for the rain to end.

The other day when I was driving home (about a week ago, actually) I noticed that right above me were these huge black storm clouds, but you could see the white and blue skies ahead. For some reason, I find that incredibly interesting.

So I took a few photos.

… again, I took these while I was driving so they’re not great. And yes, I know I shouldn’t take photos while driving at the same time, haha. But it looked so cool, so I really wanted to. It’s hard to tell the scale of it from these photos and seeing it in real life was obviously much better than a picture can show, but I’m glad I got a few at least.

What’s with the weather lately?

Okay, so when I was at work today it decided to pour rain. Like, it was really coming down.

Since I work at a campground I was honestly shocked that there weren’t too many complaints, because people are lame and usually blame the rain on the front desk staff. But you know, if Emma doesn’t do her sacred Sun Dance there’s no chance it’ll be a sunny day. [/sarcasm]

But really it was pouring like crazy there and near my house, it hardly rained at all. O_O

Hopefully the girls won’t get too many complaints in the morning because of the rain. I only had one guy get snotty because of it, and I do understand where he’s coming from… but at the same time it’s not exactly my fault that it started to rain and I can’t do much about it. It’s not like you’re going to get ruined if you tent camp in the rain. You might get a little wet, but that’s pretty much the end of it.

November 17th, 2007

Video blog number three in which there’s a rant on how much I regretted taking Latin (despite the awesome professor), talking about the weather in Canada and questioning the reason why people do things on YouTube.
